Gracie Jiu Jitsu

We teach Gracie Jiu Jitsu as taught to us by 8th degree Red-Black Belt Professor Pedro Sauer, as passed down to him by Founder Helio Gracie. This is the in-close, hands on approach to self defense. This self defense system has been perfected by the Gracie family in South America. This art concentrates on self defense using knowledge of body mechanics and leverage to enable a smaller person to successfully defend theirselves  against a bigger stronger opponent. It doesn't matter how big or small you are, with the use of position and leverage, you can defend yourself against any attacker.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese jujutsu.

Like judo, it promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat them. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.

*** All testing is done under the guidance of Mr. Sauer.
